<p>I stopped using our water softener because it was leaking and not working properly, several years ago. Then the other day someone told me it could lead to the water heater deteriorating.</p> <p>FWIW, we have city water and I didn't really see a need for the softener in the first place, because we have no stains, no problems in the shower, no bad taste, etc...</p>
