Recently I started having a problem with my garage door opener. It opens fine, but does not want to close. Pressing the button causes the garage door to start closing, but after a moving a couple inches, it will fully open again.

The only way I can get the garage door to close completely is to press and hold the button mounted on the wall inside the garage.

It sounds to me like the sensor is blocked.

At the bottom of garage opening there is a sensor on both sides that verifies that a light beam is passing unobstructed from one side to the other.

If the sensor is blocked or dirty, then the sensor will tell the opener that there's something in the way and won't allow the door to close.

If the doorway isn't obstructed and the sensor seems clean, it could be misaligned. The beam firing from one side has to hit the sensor on the other side (or be reflected back, depending on how it's set up). You may have to adjust one or the other to get the sensor working.
